Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 19, 2026 · Effective: April 19, 2026
SSH Browser does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. All data stays on your device.
1. Overview
SSH Browser ("the App") is an Android application that creates an SSH tunnel to a server you specify and routes your in-app web browsing through that tunnel via a local SOCKS5 proxy. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App handles and what is never collected.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device only:
- SSH server configurations — hostname, port, username, and authentication method for servers you add.
- SSH credentials — passwords and private keys are stored in Android's encrypted Keystore and are never stored in plain text.
- Known host keys — fingerprints of SSH servers you have connected to, used to detect man-in-the-middle attacks.
- Browser bookmarks — URLs and titles of pages you bookmark within the app.
- Browser history — a local history of pages visited within the app, stored only on your device.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
The App does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Personal identifiers (name, email address, phone number)
- Device identifiers (advertising ID, IMEI, serial number)
- Location data
- Browsing history or web traffic content
- Analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry
- Any data on servers operated by us
4. Network Traffic
When the SSH tunnel is active, your web traffic is routed through the SSH server you have configured. The App acts as a local SOCKS5 proxy and does not inspect, log, or transmit your browsing traffic to any party other than the SSH server you have chosen to connect to. You are responsible for the privacy and security practices of the SSH server you use.
5. Backup & Restore
- Manual encrypted backup — You can export an encrypted backup file of your server configurations and bookmarks to your device's local storage.
- Android Automatic Backup — If enabled on your device, Android may back up the App's data (server configurations and bookmarks, but not passwords or private keys) to your Google account. You can disable this in Android Settings → System → Backup.
6. Permissions
- INTERNET — Required to establish SSH connections to your server.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE — Required to keep the SSH tunnel alive in the background.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC — Required by Android 14+ to classify the foreground service type.
- RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — Used to reconnect to your default server after a device restart if auto-connect is enabled.
7. Third-Party Services
The App may use third-party services (such as crash reporting or app analytics tools) to monitor app stability and measure aggregate usage patterns. Any data collected through such services is strictly anonymized and cannot be used to identify you personally. No advertising identifiers, browsing history, SSH credentials, or server configurations are ever shared with these services.
The App does not use third-party services for targeted advertising or behavioral tracking.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. Because the App collects no personal information from any user, there is no special risk to children.
9. Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy changes materially, the updated policy will be posted at https://sshbrowser.app/privacy with a new "Last updated" date.
